PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Health Office is advising the public to maintain their health to avoid various diseases during the dry season, which this year is predicted to be drier and longer. Some common illnesses during extreme dry weather include diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (ARI), dehydration, and malnutrition.
The Head of the West Java Health Office, Vini Adiani Dewi, stated that the extreme dry season has resulted in a reduced supply of clean water, leading to reduced sanitation. This condition has led to a concentration of viruses and bacteria, leading to the spread of several diseases, such as diarrhea.
In addition to a shortage of clean water, the dry season is also usually accompanied by humid conditions. This can lead to dehydration, or fluid loss in the body due to high temperatures. Also, be aware of the risk of a drastic increase in body temperature (heatstroke).
"If you experience symptoms such as a body temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius, hot and red skin, dizziness, or vomiting, seek medical help immediately," said Vini, Sunday (21/6/2026).
Another illness that commonly attacks the body during the dry season is acute respiratory infections (ARI). This illness arises from smoke and poor air quality during the dry season.
Prolonged droughts also cause drought, reducing food production. Malnutrition is a condition that can arise from this.
To avoid various diseases, people are advised to take preventive measures, such as drinking enough water and getting enough rest, using an umbrella or hat when doing activities under the hot sun, and consuming nutritious food.
Another important step that needs to be taken is maintaining environmental cleanliness and planting trees.
"Don't burn trash and land," said Vini.
