PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Several high school principals in West Java have expressed their support for the Superior Human School (Maung) program initiated by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi. The program is considered a strategic step to optimize student potential and improve the quality of education in the region.
The principal of SMAN 1 Bekasi, Mukaromah, assessed that the presence of Maung School was the answer to the longing for a superior school like in the past.
"We used to know about flagship schools like RSBI with their various programs. Now, it's like a dream come true. Every city will have a highly anticipated flagship school, especially among students and alumni who want their schools to return to their former glory," he said after attending a Coordination Meeting on the Maung School at the Dewi Sartika Hall, West Java Education Office, on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).
He hopes that the program will encourage West Java to become a leader in education quality, while also contributing to the realization of Indonesia's golden generation in 2045.
Elis Nurhayati, the principal of SMAN 2 Cibinong, echoed this sentiment. She supports the policy, believing it opens up broader opportunities for high-achieving students to access education suited to their potential.
"Maung School is expected to be a space for the development of superior human resources, both from the perspective of teachers, students, and parents. It also provides an opportunity for junior high and Islamic junior high school students to continue their education based on their achievements," he said.
Meanwhile, the principal of SMAN 1 Tasikmalaya, Yonandi, views Maung School as a form of potential optimization, not discrimination. "This is not discrimination, but optimization. There are still students with potential who are not fully served. With Maung School, those with greater potential can be facilitated to develop optimally," he said.
According to him, the presence of superior schools will also encourage students' motivation to continue improving their achievements so they can enter Maung School.
"Don't let great potential go undeveloped. Maung School can be a space to encourage students to be even more extraordinary and boldly pursue their dreams," he added. (pun)
