PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The availability of sacrificial animals in West Java for Eid al-Adha 2026 is sufficient. Based on data from the National Animal Health Information System (iSIKHNAS), the sheep stock for this year's Eid al-Adha is estimated to reach 223,812. This number is higher than last year's 187,395.
Linda Al Amin, Head of the West Java Food Security and Animal Husbandry Agency, stated that cattle availability has also increased this year, reaching 120,916 head. Last year, cattle availability reached 99,565 head during Eid al-Adha.
Meanwhile, the estimated number of goats this year is 61,578, a slight decrease from last year's 63,319. Furthermore, there are 700 buffalo available, a significant increase from last year's 336.
The increase in supply this year is due to the remaining stock of sacrificial animals from last year that have not been sold.
Linda stated that monitoring of sacrificial animal traffic has been carried out since January 2026 through the iSIKHNAS application. Her team also checks the completeness of livestock documents, such as Animal Health Certificates and Veterinary Certificates (SV). Furthermore, sacrificial animals are ensured to have received the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine.
"Currently, inspections of sacrificial animals are still being carried out by directly visiting the locations of sacrificial animal sales stalls and livestock pens. We directly observe the health of the livestock, then provide them with a healthy sacrificial animal sticker as a sign of having been inspected," said Linda, Wednesday (May 20, 2026).
Some of the anticipated diseases of sacrificial animals include foot and mouth disease, lumpy skin disease (LSD), worms and other animal diseases.
Furthermore, on D-1 of Eid al-Adha, an antemortem examination will be carried out, including physical condition, age, and examination for symptoms of certain diseases such as nostrils, cavities, and others.
After the livestock is slaughtered during Eid al-Adha, a postmortem examination is carried out on the carcass, meat, internal organs such as the liver, kidneys, spleen and lungs.
