PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman, encouraged the arrangement and cleanliness of the area under the Pasopati Bridge (Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Bridge), Bandung City, to be carried out consistently and involve all regional elements.

Herman said this while leading a clean-up movement in the Skateboard Park area, under the Pasopati Bridge, Bandung City, Saturday (12/9/2026).

Herman highlighted the area's condition, which is still littered with piles of garbage. He believes this issue must be addressed immediately to ensure the underbridge, a vital part of Bandung's city, remains clean and tidy.

"This morning we conducted a cleanup under the Pasopati Bridge. We saw how incredibly piled up the trash was," said Herman.

He emphasized that in the future the area under the Pasopati Bridge must be clean and its handling must not be delayed.

However, Herman reminded that cleanup efforts should not stop at simply picking up accumulated trash. He encouraged regional elements, from the sub-district to the village level, to make a shared commitment to maintaining the area's cleanliness on an ongoing basis.

"The Pasopati Bridge underpass must be clean and not used for long," he stressed.

According to Herman, waste management must be carried out from the source, especially through educating the public to reduce household waste, reuse waste that still has value, and sort and recycle.

He asked sub-district and village officials to play an active role in educating the public so that waste problems do not all end up in final disposal sites.

"The sub-district components must help educate the public to reduce household waste, utilize waste, and recycle it starting from the household," he said.

Herman believes this step is crucial given the increasingly limited capacity of the Sarimukti Final Waste Processing and Treatment Facility (TPPAS). The majority of waste currently collected in urban areas ultimately ends up at the Sarimukti TPPAS.

"Like this garbage, it ends up being dumped at the Sarimukti TPS, while Sarimukti is already full," he said.

Therefore, Herman asked all regional elements, particularly sub-districts, to strengthen their commitment to addressing the waste problem from the source. He believes that successful waste management is determined not only by the cleanliness of a location but also by changes in community behavior regarding waste management, starting at home.

"So we're asking for commitment from regional elements, especially sub-districts, to ensure this waste problem is resolved from the source," Herman concluded.
