PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung City has confirmed its commitment to achieving sporting achievements at the 2026 Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). In a gathering with Bandung City sports figures, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that the success of athletes must be supported by a strong and consistent coaching system.
"The important thing is to build a fit community and create quality athletes from within the city of Bandung," said Farhan.
According to him, the biggest challenge in achieving sports achievements is the low level of fitness of the community. Therefore, in addition to athlete training, sports marketing efforts must also be carried out.
In addition, Farhan also highlighted the importance of collaboration between KONI, NPC, KORMI, and Soina in building a stronger sports ecosystem.
"The four must go hand in hand. Not only for high-achieving athletes, but also recreational and disabled sports," he stressed.
On the other hand, the Bandung City Government is committed to revitalizing sports training facilities, including the Tirtalega Swimming Pool and Lodaya Field.
These two facilities are expected to become development centers for three main sports, namely aquatics, athletics and gymnastics.
"These three branches must receive serious attention and continue to achieve achievements. I will fully support their development," added Farhan.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of KONI Bandung City, Nuryadi, said that he was ready to follow up on the direction of the Mayor of Bandung by focusing more on preparing athletes ahead of the 2026 Porprov.
"Alhamdulillah, we are ready to carry out the direction from the Mayor. Currently, we are still facing several challenges, but we will continue to report developments, including medals won per sport. We will also hold several additional events to maximize preparation," said Nuryadi.
With thorough preparation, Bandung City is optimistic about becoming one of the main cities in the development of sports science and producing the best athletes.
"It's not just about medals, but about building a superior sports community and making Bandung proud," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
