PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The existence of various traditional games currently seems to be being eroded by developments over time.

It cannot be denied that with the presence of modern games, today's children understand better how to play on smartphones or tablets, rather than other traditional games made from wood or bamboo.

The Hong community is the guardian of traditional games in the city of Bandung, West Java.

In this place there are at least 240 types of traditional games collected from all over West Java. Call it something like crank perepet, stilts, congklak, marbles, boy-boyan and others.

The traditional games in this community apparently do not only come from West Java, but also from Central Java and East Java, where there are around 213 types of games and from Lampung, where there are 50 games. If you calculate it, there are around 2,500 types of games from all over Indonesia.

The Hong Community was founded in 2003 and has been conducting toy research since 1996. This folk toy community is determined to preserve folk toys and games.

This community consists of 150 members from various walks of life. Age levels range from 6 years old to 90 years old.

The group of children is the actor in the game. Meanwhile, adult members serve as resource persons and toy makers.

The Hong community tries to explore and reconstruct folk toys, whether from oral or written traditions.

This folk toy community also tries to introduce folk toys with the aim of instilling educational patterns so that a child knows himself, his environment and God.

This community has a place on Jalan Bukit Pakar Utara No.26, Ciburial, Cimenyan District. There the community has a Pakarangan Ulin (play yard) which visitors can use to play while learning. (Diskominfo Bandung City/Revo)
