PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that Bandung City is ready to become a research center for new energy systems in Indonesia.

This was conveyed in an audience with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) delegation at Bandung City Hall, in an activity themed "Research Collaboration on Cyber Physical System Security for Distributed Energy Resources between Japan and Indonesia", Friday (25/4/2025).

Farhan said that collaboration with IEC not only has an impact on human resource development, but also becomes a real effort in building an integrated and sustainable city management model.

According to him, in today's digital era, energy needs are very high to ensure that internet services can run reliably.

"The higher the internet usage, the greater the energy consumption. Therefore, our economic strategy also considers the importance of increasing energy consumption per capita to accelerate economic growth," said Farhan.

He also said that the energy security system is important so that supply is not disrupted, considering the increasing dependence between the life sector, digital technology and energy.

The city of Bandung is very open to various forms of collaboration, both with other cities in Indonesia and with international partners.

"Through these various initiatives, the City of Bandung will continue to open itself as a collaborative partner in innovation, technology, and future energy," he said.

On the same occasion, Senior Advanced Research Project Professor at Keio University, Japan, Prof. Dr. Jun Murai highlighted the long history of collaboration between Keio University and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) which has existed since 1995.

"This collaboration has involved more than 25 universities across Southeast Asia in developing internet connectivity, human resource training, and community-based research," said Jun.

Meanwhile, the Smart Energy Development Plan Coordinator from IEC Prof. Dr. Masaki Umejima said that research related to the Cyber-Physical Security Framework (CPSF) and Energy Aggregation Business System (ERAB) is currently being developed regionally with ERIA, Keio University, and a network of educational institutions throughout Asia, including ITB.

"We hope that Bandung City can become the center of a new energy system in Indonesia. Collaboration with ITB and Telkom University is the first step towards developing a more distributed and secure energy system," said Masaki. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/ Rani)
