PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - Acting. Garut Regent, Barnas Adjidin attended the 2024 Ineligible Election Ballot Destruction event at the Garut Regency General Election Commission (KPU) Office, Jalan Suherman, Tarogong Kaler District, Garut Regency (13/2/2024).

Barnas Adjidin said that on this occasion 5,975 ballot papers that were unfit for use and 288 excess ballot papers were destroyed for the 2024 election.

Barnas emphasized that this destruction was proof of the transparency carried out in order to expedite the implementation of the elections which will be held tomorrow, February 14 2024. Apart from destroying damaged ballot papers, Barnas said that on this occasion the official report was also signed.

"Then we also just saw the signing of minutes between the KPU, Bawaslu and the police, which of course has the authority to control votes from place to place," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Garut Regency KPU, Dian Hasanudin, revealed that there were two categories of ballot papers that were destroyed, namely the good category or excess ballot papers, namely 288 ballot papers, and damaged ballot papers resulting from fold sorting (sorlip) totaling 5,975 sheets, which were is a ballot paper for the Presidential Vice Presidential Election (PPWP), DPR RI, DPD, and Regency DPRD and Provincial DPRD.

"This is an indication from the technical guidelines relating to the destruction mechanism, so on H-1 the KPU is obliged to destroy excess and damaged ballot papers," he said.

Meanwhile, continued Dian, reserve ballot papers have been set at 2 percent of the total Permanent Voter List (DPT) per Polling Place (TPS). Based on the previous packaging results, the ballot papers were assessed as having sufficient DPT numbers and 2 percent reserves.

"This is the result of sorting from the start of the sorlip implementation, then packing carried out yesterday, to be put into boxes, and distributed to PPK, then to PPS," he continued.

Finally, he said that the destruction of these ballot papers was to prevent misuse of ballot papers, so today they were destroyed by burning them.
