PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Deputy Regent (Wabup) of Garut, Putri Karlina admitted to being amazed by the potential profits of sheep farming when visiting the Millennial Farmer Bodas Farm in Cigawir Village, Selaawi District, Wednesday (19/3/2025).

This visit confirms the local government's support for the young generation who are involved in the world of animal husbandry.

Putri Karlina appreciates the management of the farm carried out by Dadan Haryana Rahayu and his wife.

He was surprised to learn that raising sheep could be extremely profitable.

"It turns out, because I'm a cafe businessman, raising sheep is also incredibly profitable. And it's not that difficult, bro," he said.

Furthermore, Deputy Regent Putri emphasized that sheep farming can be a promising alternative business, on par with the culinary or entertainment sectors. She also appreciated the young farmers who contributed to preserving the Garut sheep population, which is an icon of regional pride.

"Making money doesn't always mean being an employee or opening a business in the entertainment and culinary fields. Becoming a farmer can actually make you enjoy life more," he said.

At the end of her visit, Putri Karlina hoped that Bodas Farm would continue to develop and provide benefits to the surrounding community.

"Always success for Domba Bodas Farm, Kang Dadan and his wife. Hopefully the farm will expand even further," he said.

Bodas Farm Business Capacity and Potential

Owner of Domba Bodas Farm, Dadan Haryana Rahayu, explained that the farm he manages is built on a 60 tumbak pen area with a green area of about 1 hectare. The pen capacity can accommodate up to 250 sheep.

"The population today is almost 180, it could possibly increase again," he continued.

According to him, the sheep farming business has the potential for great profits, with income reaching Rp20-30 million per month. The price of sheep at Bodas Farm varies, starting from Rp600 thousand to Rp7 million per head. During Ramadan, the demand for sheep increases with shipments to various regions, such as Cikampek, Banten, Ciamis, Majalengka, and Bandung.

Dadan hopes that the local government will pay more attention to young farmers, especially in developing livestock technology and providing green land. He conveyed his request especially for support for livestock equipment that is difficult to reach and the development of green land.

"Like the technology tools in the farm that we cannot afford the price, then from the development in terms of land, because most of us have many limitations from green land in particular," he concluded. (Garut Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
