PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi inaugurated Asep Surya Atmaja as the definitive Regent of Bekasi at Bale Gede, Pakuan Building, Bandung City, Friday (23/10/2026).
He replaced the previous Bekasi Regent, Ade Kuswara Kunang, who was dismissed. Asep served the remainder of Ade's term, from 2025 to 2030, until February 20, 2030.
In his remarks, KDM - the governor's nickname - emphasized the importance of accelerating improvements to basic services, particularly health and education, as well as improving the aesthetics of the Bekasi Regency area.
The Governor has asked the Bekasi Regency Government to immediately strengthen healthcare services down to the household level. One idea is to place contract doctors in every village and residential area.
"Community health centers (Puskesmas) must be better, regional hospitals (RSUD) must be better. In the future, it's appropriate to have family doctors. Their job is to visit sick residents every day. Poor people should experience the same treatment as rich people who have their own doctors. If a sick person is picked up by an ambulance, that's normal. But if a doctor comes to their home, that's extraordinary," the governor emphasized.
The governor asked the regents to focus their health budgets on ensuring services truly reach the most vulnerable residents. The same applies to education for their citizens.
"How can Bekasi's native residents, those born here, raised here, whose grandparents were here, change their fate? There's no other way but education. They must have free education up to university," said the governor.
He also reminded the Bekasi Regency Government, which boasts strong fiscal capacity, to maximize regional spending for the needs of its citizens. He also reminded them not to leave any unused funds unused. According to the governor, the regional treasury still has approximately Rp1 trillion remaining, and the remaining budget surplus has reached Rp1.8 trillion.
"Bekasi is the king of money. The public's money must be collected and returned to the people quickly. Don't hoard it. Spend it on good roads, good schools, and the best health centers," he said.
The governor also highlighted the city's numerous cleanliness and tidiness issues. Rivers remain strewn with trash and weeds, and public facilities in markets are also poorly maintained.
"Bekasi has a lot of money, but its area isn't tidy. As a result, Bekasi residents go to Ciater and Pangandaran on weekends. Now, under Dr. Asep's leadership, Bekasi must shine," said the governor.
For this reason, he ordered that sub-district heads and village heads be given clear performance targets regarding cleanliness and regional planning.
"If the area isn't clean, evaluate their allowances. If the department head can't perform, create an integrity pact. Leaders must be firm in making changes," he stressed.
The governor also encouraged changes in the bureaucratic work style. He urged regents to spend more time in the field rather than in the office.
"The regent shouldn't be an office regent. He should be a sewer regent, a sidewalk regent, a rice field regent, and a factory regent. Go into the alleys, check on village services. It's okay to come home late, as long as he works for the people, because today's regent belongs to the people of Bekasi," he concluded.
At the end of his remarks, the Governor expressed his confidence in the newly inaugurated regent's leadership. "I'm confident that Dr. Asep will do his job properly and will not be afraid of any pressure, as he's working for the benefit of the people," he said.
Also present at the event were the Bekasi Regency Forkopimda ranks, OPD Heads, Sub-district Heads, Village Heads, and community leaders.
