PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) confirmed that the collapse in the Dago Bengkok area did not occur on the road, but on the retaining cliff on the side of the route to Dago Bengkok.
The Head of the Bandung City DSDABM, Rizki Kusrulyadi, explained that the construction of the retaining wall (TPT) at the location was part of a permanent effort to strengthen the cliff, which was previously only handled temporarily using gabions.
"Permanent measures were taken by constructing stone masonry, concrete pillars, and foundations using bored piles. During the foundation excavation process, a landslide occurred, triggered by heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses traveling too close to the side of the road, affecting the stability of the cliff," Rizki said when confirmed on Friday (June 12, 2026).
Despite the landslide, the Bandung City Government confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries to residents.
"Thank God there aren't any," said Rizki.
To ensure the safety of road users and expedite handling, DSDABM has taken a number of emergency measures.
These include closing one lane of traffic, limiting the tonnage of large vehicles passing through, installing warning signs and installing protective tarpaulins to prevent rainwater from worsening the condition of the cliff.
In addition, officers also cleared landslide material and prepared further work in the form of installing soil nailing, shotcrete (shot concrete), construction of bore pile foundations and installation of concrete retaining walls.
Rizki explained that since last Wednesday, his team has been working on installing sheet piles as part of site security measures. However, the cramped work area presents a challenge during the on-site implementation.
"In general, this is a retaining wall construction project with a concrete structure to strengthen the cliff and maintain traffic safety in the area," he said.
The Bandung City Government continues to monitor the progress of the work and is working to expedite completion to ensure the cliff's stability and allow traffic to safely return to normal. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
