PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Literacy Festival once again presents a new approach to the fusion of literacy and technology. One of the highlights was the Tangram Robot, an interactive learning tool from ITB students that combines the concepts of the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and the classic tangram game into one fun learning experience.
In simple terms, Tangram Robot is a robot that can arrange tangram pieces into various shapes ranging from cats, ships, to hearts.
Visitors simply select the desired shape via the website provided, then the robot will work to assemble the pieces automatically.
This method allows participants to not only watch, but also experience how the technology works before their eyes.
One of the Tangram Robot team members, Salma, explained that the idea behind Tangram Robot actually stemmed from a desire to bring the IoT concept closer. According to her, the tangram was chosen for a reason.
"The Tangram Robot is actually a programmable IoT system. We chose tangram because it's interactive and can be assembled into a cat, a ship, or a heart, allowing participants to learn while playing," said Salma.
In addition, the presence of the Tangram Robot also serves as a way for the team to introduce the Physics Engineering Study Program to the public.
For them, this project was chosen precisely because it is able to summarize various skills from the departments of Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Physics.
"We chose the Tangram Robot because it combines programming, mechanics, and visual design. We also offer visitors the opportunity to try using the Tangram Robot," Dery added.
Visitors are not only invited to try the Tangram Robot directly, but also to take part in material presentation sessions and interactive quizzes.
Through this quiz, participants are encouraged to first read and pay attention to the material before answering and for those who successfully answer correctly, the committee has prepared a prize in the form of a tangram kit as a form of appreciation.
Interestingly, Tangram Robot is designed to be enjoyed by all ages. The system is equipped with software that allows you to choose shapes.
As a result, both children and adults can enjoy the experience of learning robotics without needing a technical background.
"Currently, the Tangram Robot is still in the prototype stage and is being used for learning on campus. But in the future, this innovation can be further developed for broader needs, including in the industrial world," said Jeriko.
The presence of the Tangram Robot at the Bandung City Literacy Festival proves that literacy is not just about books and reading. Through simple yet creative innovations like this, the festival provides a space for the public to learn about technology, robotics, and student work that presents new ways of learning that are interactive, fun, and relevant to everyday life.
