PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - All elements of society are asked to maintain a calm atmosphere during the calm period after the end of the campaign period, ahead of the voting next Wednesday (14/2/2024). The quiet period itself will take place 11 - 13 February 2024.

"We are entering a period of calm from 11 to 13 February 2024. So it is our collective responsibility to maintain a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the democratic party," said Indonesian KPU member Yulianto Sudrajat, in a release from the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) received by West Java Public Relations, Sunday ( 11/2/2024).

Yulianto invited all Indonesian people, including West Java, who met the requirements and were registered on the Permanent Voter List (DPT) to flock to the voting stations (TPS).

"Let's make the election together as an effort to maintain unity and strengthen national integration. "Don't forget to come to the TPS, Wednesday 14 February 2024," he said.

The Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Usman Kansong, emphasized the same thing.

"We need to jointly take responsibility for maintaining Indonesia's name as a democratic country through holding safe and conducive elections. There are only a few days left, and it has entered the calm period. "This is a shared responsibility on behalf of the nation and state," said Usman.

The political year always opens up the possibility of differences, thereby contributing to friction within society. But these are all consequences of a democratic country. Even so, a calm atmosphere and maintaining the integrity of the nation is the main thing, so that the democratic party will run smoothly, safely and in an orderly manner.

"So we need to work together to always maintain order and security in a quiet atmosphere ahead of the 2024 elections," added Usman.

For information related to the 2024 Election that is valid and reliable, Usman appealed to the public to search through channels whose veracity can be confirmed, one of which is the electronic book https://s.id/pemilucepatpedia.

"This book is important so that people avoid a lot of misinformation and confusion. Contains information from trusted sources. "Moreover, the information will continue to be updated according to the latest needs and developments," said Usman.

According to Usman, we must always be wary of information disturbances that are deliberately created by individuals who want to influence decisions and election results.

In general, there are three types of information disturbances that we usually encounter and occur to divide national unity and unity, namely misinformation, disinformation and malinformation.

Misinformation is a condition when someone shares information in the form of narratives, news, photos and videos, but they do not know that the information is wrong but believe the information is the truth.

Meanwhile, malinformation, explained Usman, is categorized as misuse of information that is deliberately carried out for the purpose of muddying the waters. Third, disinformation is an effort that is deliberately carried out for a specific purpose, by distorting facts and manipulating data accompanied by hate speech.

West Java itself has declared West Java Anteng (Safe Neutral, Calm) in support of the 2024 General Election. West Java is the province with the largest number of voters, namely 35.7 million who will vote at 140,457 polling stations.

Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin always reminds all stakeholders to be aware of disasters caused by extreme weather which have the potential to hamper the running of elections. Information from BMKG, PVMBG and other official institutions needs to be seriously updated and used as a reference, especially by regents and mayors.

The West Java Provincial Government itself has coordinated with BMKG and PYMVG for disaster mitigation. For rescue, 1,800 Regional Disaster Management Agency personnel were alerted in all sub-districts. Bogor Regency was identified as the most disaster-prone area.

"So it is necessary to anticipate that during the election there will be extreme rain, especially in disaster-prone areas," said Bey, referring to the BMKG report that extreme rain will occur until March 2024.
