PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In the midst of the hustle and bustle of modern times, awareness of a clean, green environment seems to be a necessity. Various environmental activists have emerged in the past few years to adopt a clean lifestyle.
Of the many activists, one that can be found in Bandung City is the Organis Shop. This non-profit program, which is part of the YPBB organic lifestyle campaign support system packaged in the form of a shop, has been established since 2014.
Not long ago, Bandung City Public Relations had the opportunity to visit the Organist Shop in the Delima complex Number 85B Cikutra, Bandung City.
Organist Shop Coordinator Tiwi Arsianti said that the birth of the organic shop started out of concern about the amount of waste which was never decreasing.
He initiated Toko Organis as a campaign support system. Visitors to this shop can directly get various types of tools (appropriate technology) that can make it easier to implement a daily organic lifestyle and various life necessities products that are selected and provided with the lowest possible ecological footprint.
Not only that, the Organic Shop also plays a role as an educational tool in developing a minimal to zero waste lifestyle.
There visitors will get various information related to facilities and infrastructure that support a zero waste lifestyle and learn to obtain various life necessities in a zero waste way.
Tiwi said that Toko Organis has several product categories. Starting from the toiletries we sell, starting from bath soap, shampoo, detergent powder, liquid, handsoap, hand sanitizer, floor cleaner, glass.
Then there are lifestyle supports ranging from spoons, Tumblr, bags, menstrual pads, toothbrushes. Apart from that, there are also food ingredients such as soy sauce, sauce, chili sauce, sugar, salt, coffee and tea, honey. Apart from that, there are also organic technologies such as Takakura and biopore drills.
“Since its founding until now, many new products have been available as explained above. "Primarily, before adding new products, we carry out research to determine what types of products have the highest waste generation and whether organic shops can accommodate these products in bulk," he said.
"In terms of product reduction, there were several products that were previously available but in the end we eliminated them because they were packaged individually in single-use plastic, for example wood camphor. "This product is quite sought after by our consumers and is very environmentally friendly because camphor is made from wood and can be composted directly, but for this reason we are eliminating this product," he said.
Furthermore, he explained that at the Organis Store the products that sell the fastest are various toiletries, especially dishwashing soap and handwashing soap. Furthermore, Tiwi said that Toko Organis carries out the concept of sustainability (sustainable living). All products at Toko Organis are produced and sold by reducing potential waste. Both from production elements, to sales.
The Organis Shop also provides bags to lend to buyers, if the buyer forgets to bring a shopping bag. Interestingly, the availability of these shopping bags started from the concern of fellow buyers at the Organis Shop.
"So shop visitors here fall like that. Ah, I'm afraid other visitors will forget to bring their bags. "That's why they donate shopping bags to lend," he said.
Consistently Set an Example
Nine years is not a short time for Toko Organis' journey. It was recorded that they changed locations four times. Before occupying its current location in the Delima Complex, Cikutra, the last known Organis Shop was located on Jalan Batik Uwit.
Even so, the consistency and enthusiasm of Tiwi and the team at Toko Organis cannot be doubted. Even though many consumers come and go, in the end those who really care about the environment will be selected.
Tiwi also said that basically it is not difficult to implement a minimal waste lifestyle. It's just that, because humans' mindset and way of looking at waste has been going on for quite a long time, shifting habits to a lifestyle with less waste has finally become a challenge in itself.
He also explained that a minimal waste lifestyle has various advantages. And he felt the benefits when the city of Bandung experienced a waste emergency due to the burning of the Sarimukti landfill.
"The rubbish in front of this house (while pointing to a medium-sized trash can), we only removed it after three, or even six months. And it doesn't smell either. "Because we do sorting," he said.
He also invited the entire community, especially in the city of Bandung, to start sorting and separating waste according to type. And process the waste independently.
Develop Networks and Technology
Approaching a decade of operation, Toko Organis is now focusing on developing various products and also marketing. The trend of buying and selling online is recognized by Tiwi as one of the obstacles.
Even so, he remains optimistic that Toko Organis will continue to exist. Moreover, he was surrounded by young colleagues who were part of the Organis Shop,
Tiwi also opens up the possibility for the people of Bandung City to become partners for the Organis Shop in campaigning for a minimal waste lifestyle. You can contact Toko Organis via message via Instagram @tokoorganisypbb.
Meanwhile, for those of you who want to shop for various necessities available at the Organis Shop, or want to start a minimal waste lifestyle in terms of shopping habits, you can try shopping directly at their shop at the Delima Complex Number 85B, Cikutra.
Come on, start a greener lifestyle by reducing waste production starting with yourself. (Diskominfo Bandung City/UPI)
