PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is accelerating preparations for the planned reopening of Husein Sastranegara Airport. Currently, the primary focus is on improving supporting facilities and infrastructure to ensure airport access is ready to serve passenger mobility.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that discussions regarding the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport have now entered a highly technical stage. The Bandung City Government is working with the West Java Provincial Government and the Central Government to ensure all infrastructure needs are completed on time.

"We've entered a very technical stage. The instructions are to make various improvements to supporting facilities and infrastructure. We are currently coordinating with the Transportation Agency, the Transportation Department (DSDABM), the Transportation and Transportation Development Agency (DPKP), and the West Java Transportation Agency to ensure smooth public transportation to the airport," Farhan said at the Bandung City Hall on Monday (June 29, 2026).

Farhan said that, based on information provided by the Minister of Transportation, the target for Husein Sastranegara Airport to reopen is projected to be September 17, 2026.

"According to the Minister of Transportation's statement, the target is September 17. Intensive coordination meetings with city, provincial, and central government officials have also been held to discuss various preparations and reopening scenarios," he said.

A number of physical works have also begun as part of these preparations. These include repairing public street lighting (PJU), improving the drainage system, enhancing road access, and organizing parking areas.

According to Farhan, the repairs are focused on access routes to Husein Airport, especially on Jalan Abdulrahman Saleh and Jalan Pajajaran which are the main entrances to the airport area.

In addition, parking area management is also being prepared through coordination with the Indonesian Air Force as the owner of the airport area.

"Repairs to street lighting, drainage, access to Jalan Abdulrahman Saleh and Pajajaran, including parking management, are currently underway. Because the area is an Indonesian Air Force asset, implementation will be carried out in accordance with coordination and approval from the Indonesian Air Force," he said.
