PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Weather Modification Operation (OMC) carried out for 10 days succeeded in significantly reducing rainfall.

From March 11 to 20, the Joint Team consisting of BMKG, BPBD, and TNI AU has sown 100 tons of special salt using three aircraft from Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base.

The aircraft has carried out 111 missions (sorties) with a total flight time of 198 hours 43 minutes.

According to the Acting Head of the West Java BPBD, Anne Hermadiane Adnan, during the implementation of the OMC, rainfall in the heavy - very heavy - extreme categories decreased significantly by 47 percent - 96 percent, when compared to the period before the OMC.

Based on a comparison with the daily rainfall forecast, it is indicated that the actual rainfall during the OMC decreased by 40 percent.

The rainfall forecast for the third decade of March 2025 for the West Java region tends to be in the medium - high category or in the range of 50 - 300 mm/10 days.

Some areas that are still in the high rainfall forecast are in the eastern part such as Majalengka, Sumedang, Kuningan and parts of Cirebon Regency. These conditions have decreased compared to conditions during the first and second decades of March 2025.

Anne reminded that OMC is a short-term solution. "But reliable in the context of hydrometeorological disaster management," she concluded.
