PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin led the joint roll call in conjunction with the 55th National Archives Day commemoration. The event took place in the Meeting Room of the Garut Regency Regional Secretariat (Setda), Tarogong Kidul District, on Monday (May 25, 2026).
The joint roll call, originally scheduled for an open field, was forced to be moved indoors at the Regional Secretariat's meeting room due to heavy rain in Garut and the surrounding area since morning. Nevertheless, the event proceeded solemnly, carrying the theme "Empowering the Future: Archives to Empower the Future Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045."
The Regent of Garut explained that archives should no longer be viewed as mere piles of obsolete paper from the past. Instead, they are strategic resources with immense power to shape, direct, and empower the nation's future. Archives also play a crucial role as guardians of collective memory, ensuring the authenticity of information, the sustainability of values, and the accountability of state administration.
"In my opinion, archives aren't just about paper, but also digital archival documents. This means we must record all existing history and preserve it as evidence for the future," said Abdusy Syakur Amin.
He reiterated that today's dynamics are inextricably linked to past events. Through archives, the government and the public can learn from the past to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.
As a concrete step in facing the era of modernization, the Regent of Garut instructed all his staff to continue optimizing the use of the Srikandi (Integrated Dynamic Archiving Information System) application. This system is considered crucial for tracking the compliance of electronic correspondence and archiving management history, as well as being a solution for creating a more effective, transparent, and accountable bureaucracy.
"I ask for your help, ladies and gentlemen, in using Srikandi responsibly," the Regent emphasized.
Finally, the Regent also issued a stern appeal to the Heads of Regional Work Units (SKPD) regarding physical space management. In accordance with the direction of the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI), he requested that archive space management begin to be streamlined by limiting the capacity of physical archives stored in each SKPD to only 10 percent of the total available archive space capacity to encourage the acceleration of document migration to the digital realm for work effectiveness and workspace savings within the Garut Regency Government.
