PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung City Diskominfo again held a public discussion on Ngulik (Information and Communication Technology Discussion Chat).

In this edition, Feri Sulianta, an academic and communication practitioner, was invited, Thursday (11/7/2024).

Entitled "Modern Distraction, Get Things Done and Procastination", in this edition, participants received material about the impact of using social media on aspects of life.

This discussion discusses social media addiction which can have a negative impact on users. The symptoms of social media addiction are also discussed, starting from difficulty focusing, experiencing anxiety or FOMO (fear of missing out), and sleep disorders.

Apart from that, the participants also received several tips from Feri regarding how to overcome social media addiction. Among them:

1. Get used to direct/offline interaction.
2. Distance yourself from your device.
3. Do activities outside the home.
4. Set a schedule.
5. Take up a new hobby.
6. Delete social media if it really bothers you.

Not only that, the participants also gained new knowledge regarding the benefits of social media by changing positions to become social media controllers, not those controlled by social media.

“Technological development goes like this. "However, how do we want to respond to it," said Feri.

“Back to each individual's needs. Everyone has their own preferences. "But as a note, don't let us be distracted by the presence of social media, so that we forget the beneficial aspects of existing online services," he said.

In closing, Feri explained the final tip if the six methods above still don't change your addiction to social media.

There are four points that he explains in this section, namely: Aware, Mindful (thinking and existing completely and reducing the habit of multitasking), Letting In (examining oneself, reflecting), and Meditated (becoming aware of the feelings within the framework of body).

“We need to be aware, aware. When we are conscious, our thoughts will weaken. "From there, we must quickly shift our attention to productivity," he said. (Diskominfo Bandung City/Revo)
