PORTALJABAR, WEST BANDUNG REGENCY - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) continues to conduct weather modification operations (OMC) to optimize the search for landslide victims in Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency (KBB). OMC operations at the landslide site are conducted at least three times daily.

Head of the BMKG Bandung Geophysical Station, Teguh Rahayu, said that on Thursday (28/1/2026), OMC was also carried out three times.

"The OMC implementation is carried out as needed. If necessary, OMC can be carried out more than three times," said Rahayu in Pasirlangu Village, Thursday (29/1/2026).

OMC is implemented by sprinkling quicklime or calcium oxide (CaO) on clouds in the growing phase. Quicklime emits heat, disrupting cloud growth and delaying rainfall. OMC can reduce rainfall by up to 30 percent.

According to Rahayu, the potential for cloud growth at the landslide site is very high due to the current peak of the rainy season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) predicts that rain will likely continue for the next week.

West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman said the OMC was carried out to ensure clear weather so that the evacuation process for victims in Pasirlangu Village could run smoothly.

Weather factors significantly impact the victim evacuation process. Rain will hinder the evacuation process.
