PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Central Government, the West Java Provincial Government, and the City of Bandung have ensured that the zoo remains safe and under control as the management memorandum of understanding (MoU) expires. The central, provincial, and city governments have agreed to guarantee the continuity of operations, from animal feeding to employee welfare.

The Acting Head of the Bandung City Regional Civil Service Agency (BKAD), Gun Gun Sumaryana, stated that there are no significant issues with the current management of the zoo. He stated that all important aspects are running normally and are well-coordinated.

"There's nothing to worry about; animal feed, health, and the workforce are all in normal condition and well-managed," said Gun Gun at Bandung Zoo, Wednesday (May 6, 2026).

According to him, collaboration between the central government, the West Java Provincial Government, and the Bandung City Government is the main key to maintaining the stability of zoo management, even after the previous MoU expires.

"Even though the MoU has been finalized, the government remains present. All parties remain united in managing this zoo," he said.

Meanwhile, the Zoo Management Coordinator, Rohman Suryaman, ensured that the animals' food needs had been well met.

In addition to regular feed, Rohman said, animals also receive additional feed in the form of enrichment which functions to maintain the animals' instincts and health.

"This enrichment is important for maintaining animal instincts. So, it's not just about sufficient food, but also about quality," he said.

Regarding employee welfare, Rohman confirmed that employee salaries are also smooth. Honorarium payments are now covered by the Bandung City Government.

"Thank God, our employees' salaries are secure. Other operations, such as cleaning, are also continuing thanks to the support of the city government," he said.

Regarding animal health, the zoo's animals are said to be in good condition. Routine checks are being conducted with the involvement of various parties, including veterinarians and relevant agencies.

"The animals are healthy, we routinely carry out checks, including general check-ups for several animals, such as leopards and elephants," he said.

The process of selecting a new manager is currently underway. The government hopes the chosen manager will possess the necessary competencies to improve the quality of zoo management going forward. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
