PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government continues to innovate in dealing with increasingly pressing waste problems. Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, representing the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan launched the Pacman Car as an effort to solve the waste problem in Bandung City.

The launch took place at TPST Nyengseret (26/2/2025). This also marks the kick off of Bandung Utama waste management.

The Pacman truck—short for Roadside Garbage Transport Device—will operate as a garbage transport fleet from collection points in Bandung City to the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).

Its presence is expected to reduce the pile of garbage on the streets and speed up the distribution of garbage to processing facilities.

The Pacman truck is designed as a compactor truck with a capacity of 6 cubic meters or around 3 tons of waste which is designed to be more environmentally friendly because it is closed and equipped with a leachate tank, thus reducing the impact of odor and environmental pollution.

In addition, the advantages of mobility and accessibility allow this truck to move more flexibly in the dense areas of Bandung City.

Kang Erwin, Erwin's nickname, explained that the city of Bandung has 136 waste collection points (Tikum), with the addition of 12 new points.

The latest effort by the Bandung City Government is to introduce the "Pacman" car, a special vehicle that will help clean up piles of garbage in various locations.

"This car will transport waste from the collection point to the TPS, with a target of 430 tons of waste per day. This is the first step to achieve a bigger target in the next three months," Erwin explained.

For the initial stage, the Bandung City Environmental Service has prepared 12 Pacman Trucks which will operate twice a day, namely at 06.00 WIB and 19.00 WIB.

Pacman trucks are just one part of Bandung City's grand waste management strategy. The government continues to develop Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) technology, magotization, and thermal processing to minimize waste to landfills.

Erwin said that Bandung Utama's waste management focuses on three phases, namely control, recovery and handling.

This policy is becoming increasingly important considering that the Sari Mukti TPA will be closed in March 2025. In addition, there is still an accumulation of 19 rits of waste or around 43 tons per day that has not been resolved.

Of the total daily waste pile, around 430 tons are still unhandled. To address this, the Bandung City Government is targeting the destruction of 430 tons of waste per day in the next three months.

Even though there is a Pacman Truck service, Erwin also invites the public to participate in independent waste management.

"I urge Bandung residents to sort their waste from home, use composters, waste banks, and the biodiesel program that is already available. Let's make Bandung cleaner and healthier for all of us," he said.

Erwin said, when the waste control stage is completed and moves to the recovery and normalization stage, the work intensity of the Pacman Truck will be gradually reduced.

With this innovation, the Bandung City Government is optimistic that it can make the city cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah).
