PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - The Bekasi Regency Government ensures that people in need of healthcare services will continue to receive treatment, including patients from outside the region through a cross-regional healthcare service scheme.

This was conveyed by Acting Regent of Bekasi, Dr. Asep Surya Atmaja, after attending a Coordination Meeting with Regional Heads from across West Java led by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi at the Depok Mayor's Office on Wednesday (7/10/2026).

The meeting discussed strengthening health services, evaluating the reduction in maternal mortality rates (MMR), accelerating stunting reduction, services for informal workers, and service collaboration with hospitals. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Service Cooperation Agreement with the Hospital.

Acting Regent Asep Surya Atmaja said the cross-regional agreement was necessary to ensure that the public would not face obstacles in obtaining healthcare services when they needed treatment in other areas.

"We must not let these patients be neglected in the future. Anyone from Tasik who is sick in Bekasi should be treated in Bekasi, and Bekasi residents who are sick in other areas should also be treated," he said.

According to Asep Surya Atmaja, the provincial government's involvement in the scheme is crucial to ensuring that healthcare services can be provided without limiting the patient's region of origin.

"This is the agreement we've reached today. So, regardless of where Bekasi residents are sick, they must still receive care," he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arief Kurnia, Head of the Bekasi Regency Health Office, stated that discussions in the health sector also focused on reducing the prevalence of stunting and maternal and infant mortality rates. He noted that stunting prevalence in Bekasi Regency has decreased by around five percent this year.

"The stunting response is indeed the result of collaboration with other regional agencies. There's a stunting team in Bekasi Regency that involves the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), the Health Office, and other regional government organizations," he said.

The Head of the Health Office said that cooperation in health services also includes handling people with certain conditions who have not received insurance through BPJS, including victims of violence against women and children.

"Cases that cannot be covered by BPJS will be covered through collaboration with the Governor. This includes cases of violence against women and children. Bekasi Regency is ready to handle serious cases," he said.

Furthermore, the Director of Bekasi Regency Hospital, Sri Erni, said that the regional hospital is ready to follow up on the directive by providing services to the community in need, including patients from outside Bekasi Regency.

"The Governor hopes that no one will be deprived of access to healthcare when they need it. Therefore, this cooperation agreement is for the residents of West Java, and it doesn't preclude other residents who need it," he said.

Sri Erni explained that there are a number of conditions that are not covered by BPJS and therefore require financial support through government-provided schemes. She said this collaboration allows hospitals to continue providing services when the public needs treatment.

"BPJS does not provide coverage for certain criteria, such as victims of violence or under certain circumstances. Thank God, we have support from the provincial government, so we can provide services to those in need," he said. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/rka)
