PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - The Bekasi Regency Government will seek assistance to the families of the victims of the KRL Commuter Line and KA Argo Bromo Anggrek accidents, not only in the form of compensation but also educational scholarships for the families of the deceased victims.
This was conveyed by Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja after receiving a visit from the Director General of Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs in order to hand over Population documents to the families of the victims of the KRL Commuter Line accident in the KH. Mamun Nawawi Meeting Room, Bekasi Regent's Office, Central Cikarang, Wednesday (6/5/2026).
Acting Regent of Bekasi, Dr. Asep Surya Atmaja, explained that the Bekasi Regency Government has distributed Rp 10 million in cash assistance to the families of 10 victims who died in the commuter train accident, all residents with Bekasi Regency ID cards. He emphasized that this step is part of the government's concern and responsibility in providing social protection to the community.
In addition, he continued, the Bekasi Regency Government is also preparing further steps in the form of scholarship assistance for the victim's family, especially if the victim is the backbone of the family.
"Yes, we will not remain silent, because if the victim is indeed the family's breadwinner, we will also provide a scholarship for his family," said the Acting Regent.
Asep emphasized that the assistance provided was not merely short-term, but also took into account the future survival of the victim's family, especially in terms of education.
"So, it's not just money that we give, but we also see that if they are the backbone of the family, we will provide educational scholarships for families who really need them," he added.
On that occasion, Asep also appreciated the presence of the central government through the Ministry of Home Affairs' Dukcapil, which was considered responsive in assisting the population administration process for the victims.
"As Acting Regent of Bekasi, I express my gratitude. In this case, the government is here to quickly provide population administration documents, such as death certificates," he said.
Asep hopes the assistance provided will be beneficial and ease the burden on the victims' families, while also demonstrating the government's presence among the grieving community. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/rka)
