PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - The Garut Regency Government (Pemkab) and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) are strengthening supervision of the distribution of illegal drugs and implementing a curfew for minors. These measures were discussed at the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum meeting in the Pamengkang Meeting Room, Garut City District, Garut Regency, on Tuesday (August 11, 2026).

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Regent of Garut, Putri Karlina, Deputy Chairperson of the Garut Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Dila Nurul Fadilah, Forkopimda ranks, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Garut, representatives of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and Perhutani, as well as related regional officials.

The Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, stated that the Circular Letter (SE) regarding the handling of illegal drugs had been finalized and received a positive response from the Forkopimda ranks.

"The Circular on Illegal Drugs is ready. We will sign it later. We will present the concept to our colleagues at the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda). Thank God, there are no fundamental corrections. We will issue it within a day or two," he said.

In addition to drug monitoring, the Garut Regency Government, together with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), is also strengthening the enforcement of curfews for minors to anticipate various undesirable incidents.

"(The curfew) Actually, there was already a circular, sir, but the intensity was rather low. We will implement more later," he said.

Garut Police Chief, AKBP Niko N. Adi Putra, stated that the police are ready to intensify patrols to enforce the curfew, particularly starting at 9:00 PM WIB. This enforcement is being implemented to protect minors from potential victims or perpetrators of crime.

"The point is, we're securing them not to arrest them, but to prevent them from becoming victims or perhaps becoming perpetrators. In fact, recently we've been trying to secure 22 suspects," he said.

The Garut Police Chief emphasized that these security measures are a preventative measure and protection for the younger generation. However, if a criminal offense involves a minor, legal proceedings will still be carried out in accordance with the juvenile criminal justice system.

"Everything is being processed. The procedural law will be different because he's a minor, but the legal process will still be handled. The Head of the District Attorney's Office will receive our files, so we will intensify collaboration between the National Police and the Prosecutor's Office," the Garut Police Chief emphasized.

To strengthen prevention efforts, the Garut Police will also launch the Police Go to School program starting next week. This program will target schools throughout Garut Regency.

In addition to preventive measures, the Garut Police are also taking action against disturbances to public order and security (kamtibmas). The Garut Police have arrested 22 suspects involved in motorcycle gang activities and 28 suspects in alcohol and narcotics cases.

This step is expected to strengthen supervision, prevent drug abuse, and provide better protection for children and young people in Garut Regency.
