PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan confirmed that the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will accelerate coordination with the West Java Provincial Government regarding the repair of Jalan Dr. Djunjunan (Pasteur) following a traffic accident that claimed lives on that stretch.
Farhan stated that public safety is a top priority, so repairs to potholes must be carried out immediately, even though the section falls under the authority of the provincial government.
He emphasized that the government would not wait for the administrative process when public safety was threatened in the field.
"In any case, whether it's a provincial road, a national road, or a city road, the victims are the residents of Bandung. Therefore, we will immediately coordinate with the West Java Provincial Government to carry out repairs," said Farhan at Bandung City Hall (June 18, 2026).
Initial police analysis indicates that the accident began when a motorcyclist tried to overtake another vehicle while a pedestrian was crossing the road.
The driver then tried to avoid it, but the vehicle went into a pothole on the side of the road, causing him to lose control and fall and be hit by a bus coming from the same direction.
Farhan assessed that the condition of road infrastructure remains an important factor that must be addressed immediately to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
He said the results of the police analysis would be used as evaluation material, but physical road repairs must still be prioritized without waiting for a debate over authority.
"Governments cannot wait for each other. Public safety is far more important than arguing over authority," he said.
The Bandung City Government will also continue to strengthen cross-government communication so that infrastructure management can be carried out more quickly and in an integrated manner.
Farhan hopes that routine monitoring of road conditions can be increased by all stakeholders to reduce the risk of accidents due to infrastructure damage.
