PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing Pasar Baru and Pecinan Lama as world-class culinary areas to attract tourists.

The concept includes the arrangement of commercial areas, surrounding roads, and the development of night culinary delights that maintain environmental cleanliness.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the plan had been included in the government's agenda, but was awaiting the readiness of business actors and investors.

"The concept has been submitted, but I'm waiting for confirmation of the readiness of the actors and also for cooperation in the context of site preparation," said Farhan at Bandung City Hall on August 24, 2026.

The development of the area will use an inter-private investment scheme, while the Bandung City Government will play a role in managing the area and ensuring that regulations are implemented.

"Everything is in the form of a private-private investment partnership. The government only regulates the process," he said.

The Bandung City Government will also organize and regulate the area to ensure economic activities are carried out comfortably by both business actors and visitors.

"This means we're returning to our regulatory and control functions. 100 percent private investment," he said.

Farhan said the development concept connects Pasar Baru with Old Chinatown as a culinary and creative economy destination.

"The concept is already great. It will involve areas in Pasar Baru and Pecinan Lama. It's cool," said Farhan.

The area's development will continue with the improvement of several small roads in 2027 to facilitate visitor access.

The sections planned for improvement include Jalan ABC, Suniaraja, Alkateri, and the area behind Dulatip Market.

"That will give us a reason to plan for all the small roads in ABC, Suniaraja, and Alkateri to be tidied up again in 2027," he said.

According to Farhan, road repairs are an important part of creating a culinary area that is comfortable, organized, and easily accessible to tourists.

The development concept includes Old Chinatown as a permanent part as well as a night culinary area with environmental cleanliness management.

The culinary concept for the evening applies the principle of "come clean, go home clean" so that economic activities do not leave behind waste problems.

The Bandung City Government also offers a special shuttle service from Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung to Pasar Baru and other destinations.

"There aren't any yet, but there are proposals. I'm still waiting for proposals from several private transportation operators to provide shuttle services between the airport and several other locations," said Farhan.

This service will eventually connect the airport with Pasar Baru, Dago, and a number of tourist activity centers in Bandung City.
