PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to encourage the acceleration of the operational opening of the Ciroyom flyover. It is hoped that the flyovers being built in the Andir and Cicendo sub-districts will soon be completed.
The Ciroyom flyover was built to support the operation of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train. It is planned that the rails under the flyover will also be used as feeders or fast train feeder transportation.
Bandung City Regional Secretary, Ema Sumarna, said that there were still several obstacles, one of which was related to the traffic of transporting slaughtered animals to the Ciroyom Slaughterhouse (RPH) on Jalan Arjuna.
"There is a slight problem, namely for transporting slaughtered animals, ideally if they come from the south route then they have to go north on their way home. It turns out that when they want to turn left it is blocked by a cultural heritage building," said Ema when inspecting the location, Wednesday (31/1/ 2024).
Ema said that the cultural heritage building would initially be moved, without changing its original shape. He considered that the shifting of cultural heritage was important for smooth traffic flow.
"We cannot possibly eliminate the value or anything related to cultural heritage buildings, because in Bandung there is already a Regional Regulation on Cultural Heritage. This means that from a policy perspective, we are protecting it," he said.
"I only look at broad aspects of interest. For example, if a person wants to pass here, if he has a rather large car, it will certainly be obstructed. There is also the government's routine in the context of public services, bringing slaughtered animals," he added.
So far, vehicles carrying slaughtered animals have counter-flowed when leaving the slaughterhouse.
"If we go back there now, there is a threat of traffic disruption, even though it won't be a problem temporarily, don't let it become permanent. Because there is a logical reason for this to be moved without reducing the meaning or anything related to the cultural heritage building. ," he said.
He also instructed the Cicendo and Andir sub-district heads that there should be no other activities such as street vendors under the flyover.
According to him, this would reduce aesthetics and order. He encouraged the space under the flyover to be made into a public open space for the community.
"If it is a public space to relax or take shelter, it is not a problem, but if it is for economic activities, I prohibit it because this is not the place," he said.
"We also have to pay attention to the aesthetic aspect. I ask the sub-district head to immediately put things in order," he added. (rdp*)
