PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is currently focusing its efforts on handling the increasing amount of new waste in a number of areas in the city.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan revealed that until June 2025, education for the public regarding waste management will be temporarily reduced, in order to prioritize direct handling in the field.

"Our focus is on handling new waste generation. So education for the community is decreasing, not as intense as before," said Farhan in the Siaran Bareng Pak Wali talk show on PRFM News Channel, Thursday (15/5/2025).

According to him, of the total 1,597 RW in Bandung City, only 412 RW have been designated as Waste Free Areas (KBS), namely areas that are able to manage at least 30 percent of the waste produced.

This shows that there are still many areas that are unable to manage waste independently.

"We are arranging for a reduction in waste production. But our waste generation has not been reduced," he said.

Piles of garbage that have not been optimally handled are now starting to cause serious problems, especially in the Gedebage, Caringin, Ciwastra areas, and the newest location in Gunung Batu.

Farhan said that the pile was an accumulation of problems that had not been handled since last year.

"In Gedebage since December, in Caringin since July last year, and in Ciwastra it's the same," he said.

Farham also said that the City of Bandung produces around 172 trucks of garbage every day, but only 140 trucks can be disposed of at the Sarimukti Final Processing Site (TPA).

The remainder, around 32 trucks per day, is a burden that is currently being managed through various efforts.

Targeting June as a turning point, Farhan said the Bandung City Government will again intensify KBS education and expansion in the second semester of this year.

"Starting in June, we will intensify education to the public to increase KBS," he said.
