PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Deputy Mayor Erwin encouraged the handling of HIV/AIDS to continue to be implemented holistically. Starting from early detection efforts to access to treatment.
This was stated by Erwin at the "Strengthen Yourself Together, Spread Love to End AIDS" Gathering at Bandung City Hall, Thursday (24/4/2025)
According to Erwin, handling HIV/AIDS is a crucial issue that requires serious attention.
Moreover, based on data from the Bandung City Health Service through the HIV/AIDS Information System (SIHA), from 1991 to January 2025, the cumulative number of cases in Bandung City reached 9,784 people.
"Of that number, only around 6,370 people or 65 percent are complying with treatment," he said.
For Erwin, this figure shows a big challenge that must be faced. Not only in finding new cases, but also in ensuring the continuity of treatment and reducing the death rate from Aids and eliminating the stigma and discrimination that is still often experienced by Odhiv (people with HIV).
"It requires the involvement of all elements of society in education efforts, early detection, provision of easy and sustainable access to treatment, and assistance for PLHIV, as a real manifestation of concern and solidarity," he said.
According to him, the Bandung City Government is strongly committed to tackling HIV/AIDS by implementing a comprehensive and sustainable approach.
"This commitment is reflected in the implementation of the STOP strategy (light, find, treat, maintain), as a real step towards achieving the three zero targets in 2030, namely zero new HIV infections, zero deaths due to AIDS, and zero stigma and discrimination," he said.
Head of the Bandung City AIDS Commission (KPA) Secretariat, Maya Verasandi, said that routine social gathering activities were carried out as a spiritual effort.
"The program is spiritual and psychological. With this, it is expected to be a means of friendship for the HIV community and activists," he said.
