PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan is accelerating the improvement of public street lighting to improve public safety through the gradual installation of lights starting from the third to the fourth quarter of 2026 (20/7/2026).

The program was prepared in response to public complaints regarding the many dark roads that are considered prone to crime.

Farhan said the government is currently preparing a budget so that the procurement and installation of street lights can be carried out more effectively.

"Regarding the darkened roads, I admit we are currently managing the budget to ensure they are lit up again soon. Therefore, I don't dare announce any specific programs until the procurement is fully underway," said Farhan.

Farhan explained that the program implementation began in the third and fourth quarters after the budgeting scheme was re-arranged.

"I'm restructuring it. Implementation will only begin in the third and fourth quarters of this year. It must be up and running this year," he said.

The Bandung City Government also coordinates with the West Java Provincial Government and the central government because a number of road sections are under different authorities.

According to Farhan, the division of tasks was carried out so that the acceleration of the installation of the lights would not be hampered by administration or overlapping authority.

"We're dividing the responsibilities. The central government is responsible for which lighting systems, the provincial government is responsible for which, and the city government is responsible for which. There's an administrative negotiation process, so it will take time," he said.

Farhan targets all streetlights on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2026 because the area is one of the vulnerable points that is often complained about by the public.

"I'm also very worried every night, especially on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, including the flyover and surrounding areas. That's one of the vulnerable areas. The same goes for the Kiaracondong area. I even helped apprehend a group of muggers in that area," he said.

In addition to public roads, the Bandung City Government will coordinate with the management of the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium to improve lighting in areas that are frequently used by the public.

"Our goal is not only to brighten up the streets, but also to restore a sense of security to the public so that Bandung residents and visitors can carry out their activities comfortably," he said.
