PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is strengthening the safety and comfort of road users by providing a special bicycle lane on Jalan Merdeka, in front of Bandung Indah Plaza, and installing 20 concrete barrier units in the Cipaganti Park area (18/6/2026) to reduce the risk of accidents and improve traffic order.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency installed bicycle lane markings as part of its efforts to create safer, more inclusive, and more environmentally friendly road spaces for the community.

The facility is starting to be utilized by the public, with a number of cyclists using the dedicated lane which provides safer riding space amidst the dense traffic in the city center area.

Jalan Merdeka is one of the strategic sections that is being developed because it is the center of community activities and an urban tourist destination, so it requires infrastructure that supports the mobility of residents and tourists.

A Sukabumi resident, Agus Hadi, appreciates the presence of bicycle lane markings because they increase the sense of safety for cyclists.

"Traffic flow is good with markings like this, and it also improves safety for cyclists using this route. Traffic heading towards Jalan Merdeka is quite heavy. There are sidewalks for pedestrians, especially on weekends," he said.

Agus believes that this special lane helps reduce the potential for accidents because cyclists have more space when crossing.

"This painting is good for cyclist safety and can minimize accidents because there are already lanes," he said.

He hopes that bicycle lane markings will be maintained regularly so that they remain clearly visible to all road users.

"Hopefully, if it fades, we can repaint it so it looks clearer. The road is also in good condition now, with fewer potholes," he said.

In addition to providing bicycle lanes, the Bandung City Transportation Agency installed 20 concrete barriers in the Cipaganti Park area to prevent vehicles from going against the flow on the one-way lane from Jalan Setiabudi to Jalan Cipaganti.

This step makes traffic flow more orderly and smooth while minimizing violations and the potential for accidents that previously often occurred due to drivers going against the flow.
