PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing further steps to replace the felled trees on Jalan LLRE Martadinata in Bandung City. Replacement trees are scheduled to be planted before September 2026.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that confirmation regarding the availability of tree seedlings with a minimum height of five meters will be obtained from the Housing and Settlement Agency (DPKP) on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

"God willing, next Tuesday I will receive confirmation from the DPKP regarding the availability of tree seedlings that are at least five meters tall," said Farhan on Monday (11/8).

According to him, the process of planting large trees cannot be done simply because it requires dismantling the sidewalk.

This is related to the Bandung City Government's plan to start repairing sidewalks on a number of roads starting in September.

Farhan said that the work schedule would later be announced by the Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM).

Therefore, coordination across regional agencies is important so that the process of planting replacement trees can be carried out before sidewalk repair work begins.

"Planting a five-meter-tall tree is impossible without dismantling the sidewalk. So it involves many parties," he said.

He hopes that all preparations can be completed soon so that tree planting can be carried out before September.

"So hopefully we can plant before September," said Farhan.

Farhan also said that he had reported the tree felling issue to several parties at the central government level.

Among them were the Minister of Environment, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, and the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).

"I've also reported this to the Minister of the Environment. Thank you for your attention, Mr. Jumhur. I've also reported this to Mr. AHY, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure," said Farhan.

In addition, Farhan said that his party had conveyed this issue to the leadership of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, which is paying special attention to the case of tree felling in the city of Bandung.

Regarding the enforcement process, Farhan asked that legal terms not be used carelessly.

He said that the perpetrators of tree felling on Jalan Riau had been identified and had been given sanctions in accordance with the provisions of the Regional Regulation (Perda).

"Be careful when using the term suspect. The perpetrator has been identified and given sanctions in accordance with the Regional Regulation. This applies to the case on Jalan Riau," he said.

Meanwhile, for the other three points, the investigation is still ongoing.

Farhan said that a number of trees at the location had been marked and further action would be taken.

"We haven't taken action on the one in Sawunggaling, but we've marked it. The one in Ir. Haji Juanda has also been marked, but no action has been taken. And the one in Cijerah hasn't been taken either. Further action will be taken," he said.

Sanctions have also been imposed in the case on Jalan Riau. According to a report received by the Bandung City Government, the fine is Rp 100 million and the obligation to provide 1,000 tree seedlings as part of the responsibility for the violation.

Farhan emphasized that the tree replacement was part of the reorganization of open spaces and the city environment.

Meanwhile, the total number of trees that are of concern to the Bandung City Government is 35 trees at a number of points.

The determination of the replanting location will be adjusted to field conditions, including the sidewalk improvement agenda which will begin next September.
