PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has taken a step forward in waste management by implementing Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology. RDF technology has been tested at several Integrated Waste Disposal Sites (TPST) in Bandung City.
Acting Mayor of Bandung Bambang Tirtoyuliono said that through trials at several TPSTs, namely Babakan Siliwangi (Baksil), Jalan Indramayu, Ence Azis and Batununggal, the City of Bandung had succeeded in converting waste into RDF.
Additional information, RDF technology is a waste processing process that includes drying to reduce the water content to less than 25 percent. Then chopped into 2-10 cm sizes so that the calorific value increases. The result is uniform powders or pieces that are ready to be used as fuel.
According to Bambang, traffic to the Sarimukti TPS has also decreased, showing the effectiveness of the waste management program implemented by the Bandung City Government.
"With this RDF technology, the flow of Bandung City waste to the Sari Mukti TPS is reduced," said Bambang when accompanying the Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin at the Ence Azis TPST, Bandung City, Monday (13/5/2024).
The city of Bandung now has a total of 27 TPS spread across various regions, showing commitment to improving waste management infrastructure.
RDF produced from this technology can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels in various industries.
Apart from reducing the environmental impact of waste, implementing RDF also helps utilize resources efficiently.
Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin hopes that by implementing RDF technology, waste management problems can be addressed more effectively and sustainably.
"We hope that with the application of RDF technology, the waste problem in Bandung City can be resolved soon," he said.
This step is in line with efforts to create a cleaner environment in the city of Bandung. (Diskominfo Bandung City/UPI)
