PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The high number of tourists visiting Bandung during the long holiday period has once again highlighted the issue of illegal parking in several strategic areas. Therefore, a long-term solution is needed to address this recurring problem.

The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, admitted that various efforts to control the situation so far have not been able to resolve the problem permanently.

After being regulated, illegal parking practices often reappear in the same locations.

"Illegal parking is like mosquitoes. Drive them away, and they come back. Regulate them, and they reappear. That's why we need a more permanent solution," he said at Bandung City Hall on Monday (June 1, 2026).

According to Farhan, tourist areas and centers of economic activity such as Jalan Asia Afrika, Braga, and Jalan Sudirman are the points that most often experience traffic congestion during the holiday season.

To address this issue, the Bandung City Government is currently seeking investors willing to build modern parking facilities in the form of multi-storey parking buildings in a number of strategic areas.

The existence of a parking building is expected to reduce vehicles parked on the roadside while increasing the comfort of tourists and the public.

In addition to supporting smooth traffic flow, the construction of parking facilities is also considered to be able to improve the quality of the spatial planning of the city center area which has long been the face of Bandung City in the eyes of tourists.

Farhan assessed that parking management would be one of the government's priorities in supporting the development of the tourism and creative economy sectors in Bandung City. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
