PORTALJABAR, BOGOR CITY - Acting Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Bogor City, Hanafi, emphasized the importance of maximizing the use of remaining agricultural land in Bogor City as an effort to maintain local food sustainability while strengthening regional resilience.
He conveyed this when attending the First Harvest of horticultural agricultural products at the Training and Teaching Site (TTS) demonstration plot in Tanah Sareal Park, Jalan Sholeh Iskandar, Bogor City, Wednesday (23/4/2025).
Hanafi said that the area of agricultural land in Bogor City is currently only about 10 percent of the total area. He called the existence of agricultural land in the middle of the city as "the remaining paradise" that must be protected.
Therefore, he highlighted the importance of maintaining sustainable agricultural land.
She also appreciated the Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association (IWAPI) which has made this land a model as well as a place for agricultural education for the community.
"Agricultural land in Bogor City is indeed limited, but that is precisely why it needs to be utilized as much as possible. IWAPI has provided an example that even limited land can provide great benefits if managed well and consistently," said Hanafi.
According to him, collaboration between the government and community organizations is very important in strengthening food security.
Moreover, during the pandemic, the Bogor City Government (Pemkot) has encouraged the urban farming movement and the use of home yards as a form of family food security.
"We hope that this movement will continue to be imitated by the community. No matter how small the land is, it can be utilized, at least to meet household needs," he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson for Agriculture of the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of IWAPI, Susi Andrianis, said that this mass harvest activity is not only a symbol of agricultural success, but also a symbol of hope towards independent, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural development, especially for women entrepreneurs and farmers.
"This harvest is real evidence that agricultural progress must be driven collaboratively. It cannot be just one party. We must move together," he said.
On the same occasion, IWAPI also signed an agricultural seed partnership paying contract with PT BISI International Tbk, and started a strategic collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) in the Agriculture Sector in order to strengthen national food security.
The activity was closed with the harvest of horticultural agricultural products which became a symbol of the success of the collaboration between IWAPI and the Bogor City Government in empowering agricultural land in urban areas. (Bogor City Communication and Information Service/rka)
