PORTALJABAR, INDRAMAYU REGENCY - The West Java Provincial Government will hold foreign language training for village communities. The goal is to increase the competency of villagers planning to work abroad. The four foreign languages will be English, Mandarin, Japanese, and Arabic.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said that foreign language training will begin in November 2026. Each sub-district head was asked to select four villages to host the foreign language training.
The Head of the West Java Manpower and Transmigration Agency (Disnakertrans), I Gusti Agung Kim Fajar, added that the foreign language training was carried out to prepare village residents who would work abroad so they would not face problems.
"Human resource preparation is crucial because migrant workers come from rural areas. Some of them encounter problems abroad due to lack of knowledge of procedures, let alone the language," Kim said after an online job fair at PT Food Packaging Jaya in the Losarang Industrial Estate, Indramayu, on Friday (10/16/2026).
Foreign language trainers will be recruited from high school and vocational school teachers in Indramayu or independent instructors.
Kim said the foreign language training will last approximately six months. Each village will be allocated a quota of dozens of people to participate in the foreign language training, which will be conducted directly in the village.
"Foreign language training is provided free of charge so that human resources are ready to work abroad," said Kim.
Tanuri, the head of Muntur Village in Losarang District, Indramayu, expressed his appreciation for Governor Dedi Mulyadi's plan to hold foreign language training. Tanuri stated that several Muntur residents work abroad, including as babysitters and restaurant waiters.
Until now, Muntur residents have worked abroad without prior foreign language training. Their destinations have typically been Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
According to Tanuri, approximately 10 percent of Muntur Village residents are still unemployed. Most of them are high school graduates.
