PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - The Bekasi Regency Government, together with the West Java Provincial Government, is preparing a strategy for renovating the Cikarang New Market, as an effort to address the overflowing market vendors' stalls that have been located around the New Market area and occupying the roadside.

This was conveyed by Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja when accompanying the Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi to directly inspect the existing condition of the Cikarang New Market, on Saturday, (13/06/2026).

The Acting Regent of Bekasi stated that the initial phase will involve tidying up the area beneath Pasar Baru Cikarang to make it suitable for vendors. The area beneath the market, which contains piles of trash, will be cleaned first, followed by painting the exterior, repairing damaged areas, and landscaping the surrounding area.

"We will first tidy up the lower part of the market, including cleaning up untidy areas and improving the building's appearance to make it better than before. Currently, we are still waiting for the formation of a team from the West Java Provincial Government and funding support through the CSR program," he said.

Asep explained that the West Java Governor's directive, after two visits to Pasar Baru Cikarang, was to immediately address the problem of garbage piling up in the area below the market. To that end, the Trade Office, along with the Bekasi Regency Environmental Office, will conduct a thorough cleanup before the area is occupied by vendors.

"The area below the market will be cleaned first to make it neat and suitable for use. After that, we'll paint and repair several leaks so that vendors currently selling outside can enter the market," he said.

According to him, the temporary layout will be tailored to the vendors' business types. The lower area of the market is planned to accommodate vegetable vendors, while the upper area, which could be used as a culinary center or food court, will house clothing and food vendors.

The Acting Regent of Bekasi explained that, as directed by Kang Dedy Mulyadi (KDM), Bank BJB will also repair the sidewalks through its CSR program to make them neater and more orderly. Meanwhile, the Pasar Baru Cikarang courtyard will be repaired with asphalt (hotmix) and paving blocks, which can later be used as a parking area for shoppers and for loading and unloading vegetable trucks.

"I hope the traders will support and be disciplined. Once the area below the market is tidied up and ready for occupancy, the traders currently outside will have to move inside to ensure a more orderly market environment and prevent traffic disruption," he said.

Furthermore, Asep revealed that the Bekasi Regency Government is also preparing a revitalization concept for the Cikarang New Market, which is targeted to be realized in 2027. Currently, the regional government is preparing a Detailed Engineering Design (DED) sketch that is adjusted to field conditions, building characteristics, and the needs of the community and traders.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bekasi Regency Trade Office, Gatot Purnomo, said that his office is currently preparing a Detailed Engineering Design (DED) for the revitalization of the Cikarang New Market through the Bekasi Regency Public Works and Spatial Planning Office.

"The DED is currently being drafted. Various inputs, including guidance from the Acting Regent of Bekasi regarding the market development concept, will be incorporated into the planning document so that the revitalization results align with on-the-ground needs," Gatot said.

He stated that during the transition period, the temporary arrangement will receive support from the West Java Provincial Government through Bank BJB's CSR program. Implementation will involve a trader forum and an internal team formed by the provincial government.

According to Gatot Purnomo, the West Java Government's support for the Pasar Baru Cikarang traders represents a concrete step towards market development and improved merchant comfort. He hopes the review and development of the Deed (DED) can be completed soon so that the revitalization of Pasar Baru Cikarang can be realized as planned in 2027.

"We hope the revitalization of Pasar Baru Cikarang will proceed as planned, allowing for more orderly, comfortable trading activities, and eliminating congestion and traffic disruptions on Jalan Raya RE Martadinata," he concluded. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/rka)
