PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) plans to provide employment insurance to 5.4 million informal workers in 2027. The number of recipients next year will increase fivefold compared to 2026, which was 1 million informal workers.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the West Java provincial government and district/city governments throughout the province will cover BPJS Employment premiums for informal workers. Informal workers receiving this assistance include farmers, fishermen, construction workers, online and offline motorcycle taxi drivers, street vendors, domestic workers, and construction laborers.

The requirements for receiving this assistance include being an informal worker aged 18-64 years and belonging to deciles 1-4.

"So that informal workers can directly access this insurance membership, please access the Aing Insurance feature in the Sapawarga application," said KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname, Monday (21/9/2026).

By becoming a BPJS Employment participant, informal workers will receive various benefits, including free medical care in the event of a work-related accident. A worker in Bekasi has already benefited from this benefit, receiving free medical treatment worth Rp 500 million after a work-related accident.

Informal workers who participate in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will also receive death benefits in the form of compensation for their beneficiaries. If the death is caused by factors other than a work-related accident, the beneficiary will receive Rp 42 million. If the death is due to a work-related accident, the beneficiary will receive compensation equal to 48 times their wages. Furthermore, the deceased worker's two children will receive scholarships.

KDM hopes this program will benefit the people of West Java by protecting working heads of households and their families. He projects that the total number of West Java residents covered by BPJS Employment, facilitated by the West Java Provincial Government, will reach 17 million family members.
