PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan is committed to continuing to campaign for awareness of the risks of heart disease among the people in his region.

Erwan explained that many people feel healthy because they have no symptoms. However, after a health check, they are diagnosed with heart disease.

"We will make West Java a health-conscious province, aware of the risks of heart disease. We are ready to collaborate to continue the campaign," he said when met during the inauguration of the management of the Indonesian Heart Foundation, West Java Province Branch, for the 2026-2031 term, in the hall of the West Java Health Office office, Saturday (September 5, 2026).

Erwan revealed that the government has strengthened early detection efforts through free health checks. By July 2026, approximately 1 million new cases of heart disease had been detected among the 60 million people who had undergone health checks. Those diagnosed with heart disease had previously thought themselves healthy.

"What would happen if there was no early detection? So, those who feel healthy are not necessarily truly healthy," said Erwan.

He continued, explaining that the way to raise public awareness of the risks of heart disease is to foster a healthy lifestyle. To that end, his team will collaborate with the Indonesian Heart Foundation to promote how to maintain heart health by fostering a healthy lifestyle.

"The government cannot work alone. We need the Indonesian Heart Foundation to build a healthy lifestyle in West Java," said Erwan.

The management of the West Java Province Branch of the Indonesian Heart Foundation is currently chaired by Komar Hanifi after being inaugurated by the general chair of the Indonesian Heart Foundation, Annisa Pohan Yudhoyono.

"Hopefully, the West Java Indonesian Heart Foundation, under its current leadership, will continue to contribute to reducing the risk of heart disease and building a culture of healthy living in West Java," Erwan concluded.
