PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government is targeting to become the first province to be free from out-of-school children (ATS) by 2029. To achieve this target, one of the things being done is to encourage transformation within the government, starting from the transformation of ASN, institutions, to performance management.

West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman hopes that this step can be part of strengthening West Java's governance under the leadership of Governor Dedi Mulyadi, commonly known as Kang Dedi Mulyadi.

"So, in 2029, West Java will be the first province to target children who are free from out-of-school (ATS)," he said while giving a speech at the Technical Assistance Workshop for the Preparation of Regional Action Plans for the Prevention and Handling of Out-of-School Children in West Java Province, at the Mercure Hotel in Bandung City, Monday (31/8/2026) evening.

The West Java Provincial Government, Herman continued, is committed to accelerating the prevention and handling of Out-of-School Children (ATS).

These efforts are no longer seen as merely a government program, but rather as a strategic need to ensure that every child in West Java has the right and opportunity to receive an education.

According to Herman, addressing ATS requires collective action and cross-sector synergy. Regional governments cannot work alone, so collaboration between provincial governments, district/city governments, regional apparatus, the education sector, and various stakeholders is key to achieving targeted action.

Herman also emphasized the importance of quality data as a foundation for policymaking. Data on out-of-school children must accurately reflect the situation so the government can determine interventions tailored to each child's individual needs.

" Good data, good decision, good result ," said Regional Secretary Herman.

Good data, according to Regional Secretary Herman, will result in the right decisions and ultimately provide results that can be felt in real terms by the community.
