PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The redevelopment of the Cicadas area is beginning to reveal a new, more orderly, brighter, and more comfortable look. The peaceful and conducive redevelopment process has received support from various community groups, including residents and vendors who have been operating in the area.
Abang Jahit, a resident who has run a sewing business in Cicadas for 35 years, admitted to feeling the positive impact of the government's restructuring.
"I'm frankly pleased with the current situation; it's neat and bright. Thank you to the Governor and Mayor. However, we'll try to continue to pay attention to the vendors so they can continue to earn a living," he said.
Suherman, the head of the Cicadas street vendors, expressed similar support. He hopes that the area's redevelopment can go hand in hand with solutions that provide certainty for the vendors who have long depended on the location for their livelihood.
"Traders have been here for decades. Hopefully, a solution will be found soon, whether in the form of new jobs or relocation of the trading area, so that things remain comfortable for us traders and the government as well," he said.
According to Suherman, the arrangement process which took place in an orderly and peaceful manner is something that deserves appreciation.
"Initially, the shop owners here were also worried about riots, but thank God everything went well. But from a Bandung resident's perspective, I completely agree, because I want Bandung to be better, tidier, and more comfortable," he said.
Meanwhile, Cicadas native Abah Ajat said he was moved by the changes taking place in his neighborhood. He believes the improvements have restored the area to a more comfortable and beautiful atmosphere.
"As a local, I'm very happy. It's like seeing the cicadas of old, but neater. The trees provide shade, too," he said.
The arrangement of the Cicadas area is not only aimed at creating a more orderly and comfortable urban space, but also at paying attention to the economic sustainability of the community who have been relying on the area for their livelihoods.
Therefore, the arrangement process will continue to be carried out through communication and assistance to traders, while also seeking the best solutions so that the arrangement of the area can run in line with the sustainability of community businesses.
