PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) ensures that the process of lowering and regulating overhead cables to underground, which began on June 2, 2026, will run safely without causing internet service disruptions or blackouts.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the public need not worry about potential connectivity disruptions during the process.

"I guarantee there will be no internet blackout. We will ensure the network remains operational and public services are uninterrupted," he said on Monday, June 1, 2026.

This was confirmed by the President Director of PT Bandung Infra Investama (BII), Asep Wawan Dharmawan. He stated that all technical preparations had been completed before the kick-off of the Bandung City IPT program.

"We have made preparations, starting with ensuring that passive devices such as manholes, handholes, and the main network and access are available and ready for use," said Asep.

According to him, the restructuring process involved rerouting overhead cables to the already-built underground network. Repeated outreach to all internet service providers (ISPs) has also been conducted to ensure a smooth network migration.

Of the 29 companies that have expressed commitment, approximately 13 are ready to utilize underground networks. While not all have made the switch, the existing network is considered sufficient to maintain stable connectivity.

"It's not all of it yet, but what's already available is enough to cover the needs. So, when the overhead cables are cut, the network below is ready as an alternative," he explained.

He said that a blackout or total network outage would not occur because the system had been prepared in layers.

To ensure public services continue to operate, BII also coordinates with various Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), including the Education Office, Health Office, Population and Civil Registration Office, DPMTSP, and other agencies that rely on digital networks.

"We're identifying the needs of each OPD, including the ISPs they use. If network migration is necessary, we'll help them stay connected," he added.

In addition to government services, the banking sector and other vital services are also being given attention to ensure they do not experience disruption during the process.

The technical team is also on standby 24 hours a day to ensure all stages run smoothly and can respond quickly to any problems that arise in the field.

The initial phase of the cleanup will begin on Jalan Asia Afrika and Jalan Sunda, then continue to the Tamblong–Veteran and Merdeka–Lembong–Tamblong sections. The program will cover 36 roads by June 18, 2026.

The improvement will continue in July, with the addition of 13 road sections in the next phase. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
