PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan confirmed that the restructuring of street vendors (PKL) in the Cicadas area is starting to show significant results. The restructuring on Jalan Ahmad Yani was reportedly completed early Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and the Bandung City Government will continue the restructuring on Jalan Cipadung.

Farhan stated that the reorganization process was carried out humanely through extensive dialogue with the vendors. In fact, the vendors themselves dismantled the stalls after reaching a mutual agreement.

"This morning, the Ahmad Yani section of Jalan Ahmad Yani was confirmed to be complete. Thank God, everything went smoothly," said Farhan at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (May 20, 2026).

According to him, a communication approach is key to the success of the Cicadas area development. From the outset, dialogue has been chosen over repressive measures to ensure a conducive process while safeguarding the interests of the community.

"If you want to evict someone, you have to talk to them first. It's a long process, but the results are better," he said.

Farhan revealed that he personally monitors the progress of the area's development almost every week. He was even on the ground until Tuesday morning, working with a joint team of regional government agencies, to ensure the process was complete.

After the demolition is complete, the next focus is on improving basic infrastructure, especially the drainage system which has been disrupted due to being covered by buildings and street vendor stalls.

Farhan explained that the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) will soon open control access to the drainage basin so that water flow returns to normal and the Cicadas area is free from flooding problems.

"The drainage will be repaired first because many of the tank controls are blocked. That's what's being fixed now," he explained.

In addition to regulatory measures, the Bandung City Government is also preparing a new development concept for the area. Farhan stated that street vendors will be able to continue operating in the same location, but with a different business model and management system to ensure a more orderly and comfortable environment.

He also appreciated the West Java Provincial Government's support in the Cicadas area development process. He stated that the Governor's encouragement has strengthened the gradual development process.

"Thank God, the Governor helped us. So, there was very strong encouragement from the Governor," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
