PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan inspected the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on March 17, 2026 and encouraged the acceleration of casting to ensure safe pedestrian access during Eid al-Fitr.
The developer accelerated work after the inspection by completing excavation closures and casting at several project points.
BRT Project Leader Gerry explained that work could not be stopped while the excavation was open, so it was accelerated to avoid risks to the public.
"There was indeed a slight 'miss'. When the circular was issued to halt work on March 12th, the conditions in the excavation site were already completely exposed. We couldn't just leave it like that," said Gerry.
The developer has requested an extension of time until March 17 to complete the groundwork to ensure the safety of road users.
"After the inspection, we immediately started casting the concrete in the morning," he explained.
The project work has been structurally completed at five points, with two locations entering the andesite stone installation stage and the others entering the firing stage.
The main focus is directed at ensuring that pedestrian paths remain accessible to the public without obstruction during the Eid al-Fitr period.
"The Mayor's message is clear: don't block pedestrian access. This way, people can still pass without having to detour or go out onto the street," he said.
The developer has prepared temporary signs and paths to ensure pedestrian safety around the project area.
"We apologize, especially to pedestrians who may be inconvenienced. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible and continue to provide safe access," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/bhf)
