PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi emphasized the halt to the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based data center in the Jatiluhur area, West Java, as an effort to enforce regulations, especially to protect the interests of the community.

"When I asked yesterday, the Building Construction Permit (IMB) hadn't been issued. Has the Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) been issued? Not yet. I said don't proceed (with construction) yet. The permit hasn't been issued. Where's the fault? The Purwakarta Regional Government? No. The fault lies with the consultant, who hadn't submitted the data when I arrived," he said in Bandung, Friday (October 2, 2026).

He emphasized that policies are taken properly in accordance with provincial or district authority. Meanwhile, Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) permits fall under the authority of the local Environmental Agency.

However, KDM - Dedi Mulyadi's nickname - said that the government always acts fairly and objectively in making policies, one of which is by asking academics from the University of Indonesia, who will represent the West Java Provincial Government, to provide responses and input regarding the development of the AI data center.

"For me personally, if the environmental impact analysis (EIA) objectively passes, I have no problem implementing it. If the EIA is not allowed, I have no problem stopping it. But one thing to note: Purwakarta residents who sacrificed for the benefit of Jatiluhur must have access to water. It must not be disrupted," he stressed.

Enough water

KDM added that the water needs for BDx, once operational, can be met from the Jatiluhur Reservoir.

The water is taken from the portion allocated for the Purwakarta Regency PDAM, which receives a quota of 3,000 liters per second.

"The PDAM was given a quota of 3,000 liters per second. After decades of use, only 380 liters per second have been used, amounting to only 11% of the allocated quota. If only 11% of the allocated quota is used, that means 89% of the water is not utilized by the PDAM. Now the company is using another 14%. What's left? There's still some left. It's simple," he stressed.

Previously, KDM visited the AI data center in the Jatiluhur area on Tuesday (July 28, 2026). His visit aimed to ensure the Rp 3.5 trillion investment was located on land safe from floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. Furthermore, KDM also ensured that the water and electricity needed for the AI data center's operations were sufficient.
