PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin checked directly at the location affected by the earthquake in Cilawu District, Garut Regency on Sunday (28/4/24) morning.

Bey visited Mulyadi's house in Margadana Village, Darmawan Village. The green house appeared to have collapsed in a number of parts, including the roof and walls.

"In Garut, this is a report from the Regional Secretary and the Acting Regent of Garut who are in Pameungpeuk, Pa Kalak BPBD, to this day the most damaged is this house. But I will ask the Acting Regent of Garut to cover the repairs," he said

After the earthquake, Bey also saw that community activities in the earthquake-affected areas had recovered, as seen by people who had returned to gathering and socializing, and carrying out economic activities.

"I saw for myself that people's activities were normal, there was no trauma, nothing. So, people were carrying out their activities as usual, just normal. I also met women who were actually botram, meaning they were not traumatized by last night's earthquake," he said. .

He praised the excellent emergency response from the ranks of the Garut Regency Regional Government, and appreciated the alertness of volunteers, one of whom was the Disaster Preparedness Cadet (Tagana), who was ready to handle the community.

"The TNI/Polri also reported that the most damaged (houses) were in Garut, but even in Tasik the information was only about the Scout Building and that was only the ceiling, but we still have to be alert and follow the directions of officers in the field," he said.

Meanwhile, apart from Garut, the earthquake also damaged the Scout Building in Mangunreja District, Tasikmalaya. Then there was damage to houses in Sodonghilir Village, the Kami Mansuriah Mosque in Mekarwangi Village, Cisayong District, and the SMC Hospital where the ceiling collapsed.

"Even in Tasik, I contacted the Regent of Tasik, the most damaged thing was the scout building, only the ceilings had been cleaned," he said.

In Garut Regency itself, Bey continued, there was one room in the Pameungpeuk Regional Hospital that was damaged, the hospital had been cleaned, while the injured victims had returned to their homes.

"In Pameungpeuk, one room was damaged but that has also been cleaned, and in Garut there were three injured people, two adults and one child. They have all gone home, we (the government) are paying the costs," he said.

Bey praised and thanked the excellent emergency response
from the ranks of the Garut Regency Regional Government, and also all district and city governments in West Java, and appreciated the alertness of volunteers, one of whom was the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) who were ready to handle communities affected by the earthquake disaster.

"Thank God, Mr. Regent, Mr. Regional Secretary, Mr. Kalak, are ready, the emergency response is good, the TNI/Polrid and Tagana have also been deployed," he said.

Previously reported, BMKG said that an earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean south of Garut Regency, West Java.

The results of BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has updated parameters with a magnitude of 6.2 (previously stated as 6.5).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 8.39° South Latitude; 107.11° East Longitude, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 156 kilometers southwest of Garut Regency, at a depth of 70 kilometers.
