PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of Waste Processing into Electrical Energy (PSEL) with Danantara at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs Building, Central Jakarta (11/5/2026) to accelerate emergency waste management and introduce a modern waste management system in Bekasi Regency.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding involved a number of regional governments involved in the development of the national PSEL project in accordance with the mandate of Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2025 concerning Urban Waste Management Through Waste Processing into Renewable Energy Based on Environmentally Friendly Technology.
Asep said the PSEL project is a concrete step to reduce the increasing waste problem due to the growth of industrial areas, settlements, and the population in Bekasi Regency.
"The waste problem cannot be addressed in isolation. Collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and the private sector is needed to ensure optimal and sustainable management," said Asep.
The Bekasi Regency Government is targeting to resolve the waste emergency within two years through the gradual construction of processing and handling facilities, which are currently under preparation.
Asep said that the PSEL construction is targeted for completion in 2028, thus reducing the burden on landfills and generating renewable energy from waste.
"PSEL is not just a waste processing facility, but part of the transformation of a more modern environmental management system oriented towards renewable energy," he said.
As a form of project readiness, the Bekasi Regency Government has prepared five hectares of land for the construction of PSEL facilities.
The local government also allocated a budget of IDR 16.5 billion to support the land preparation process as the initial stage of the facility's construction.
"We have prepared five hectares of land for the PSEL development. A budget of Rp 16.5 billion has also been allocated for the land preparation process," he said.
In addition to the construction of long-term facilities, the Bekasi Regency Government is preparing a temporary solution through the processing of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) in collaboration with PT. Asiana.
Through this collaboration, PT Indocement will process accumulated dry waste into alternative fuel with a capacity of up to 1,000 tons per day.
"So, waste management is carried out through two schemes: wet waste through PSEL and dry waste through RDF with PT. Asiana," said Asep.
This step is expected to accelerate the reduction of waste volume while creating a cleaner and healthier environment for the people of Bekasi Regency.
