PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to strengthen support for women who are heads of families.
Through the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Service (DP3A), the empowerment program for female heads of households (Pekka) is carried out sustainably, especially to provide them with vocational training and access to capital assistance.
Head of DP3A Bandung City, Uum Sumiati, explained that women as heads of families deserve appreciation for their important role in supporting the household.
"Women as heads of families must be given appreciation. Because being a single mother is certainly very difficult," he said at Bandung City Hall, Monday (21/4/2025).
Interestingly, the Pekka category in Bandung City does not only include women who are widows, but also those who still have husbands but take over the role of being the backbone of the family.
"Even women who actually still have husbands, but they become family servants. Their husbands are sick or unable to work. We also include that in the definition of Pekka," he said.
To support them, DP3A provides skills training such as sewing, pastry making, and various other training tailored to their interests and potential.
After participating in the training, the Pekka also received capital assistance distributed through cooperation with the Bandung City Baznas.
"We have helped approximately 160 women with varying amounts of assistance, from IDR 1.5 million to IDR 2 million, especially for female heads of families after we trained them," he said.
Not stopping at training and capital, the City Government also facilitates the marketing of Pekka products through the Warung Cetar program, a collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government.
"The majority are products from our female heads of families in Bandung City who fill the products there for their sales," he said. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/UPI)
