PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government has confirmed its commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle for independence as a historical mandate since the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference (AAC).
This was conveyed by the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, when attending the Study of Caring for Palestine: Evidence of Faith and Humanity event at the Al-Fajr Mosque, Jalan Cijagra Raya (26/4/2025).
Muhammad Farhan said that support for Palestinian independence is not just a form of human solidarity, but a historical promise that must continue to be held firmly.
"Of all the participating countries of the Asian-African Conference, only one has not been independent until today: Palestine. We continue to keep our promise. That promise must not be lost," he stressed.
He reminded that the city of Bandung has a historical role in fighting for the independence of nations in Asia and Africa.
"In 2018, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the late Mang Oded, we built Palestine Walk in Alun-Alun Bandung. When I took foreign guests there, they were amazed. And I said, this is a symbol that we have not loved Palestine with all our hearts," he said.
Muhammad Farhan invited clerics, community leaders, and residents of Bandung City to continue to maintain consistency in voicing support for Palestine.
"Keep spreading it on social media, from mosque to mosque, from heart to heart. Nothing can stop the wave of the people," he said.
Closing his remarks, Muhammad Farhan expressed his commitment to continue fighting for Palestinian independence.
"As a Bandung person, I will always be part of the struggle to free Palestine from the colonizers," he said, greeted by takbir from the audience. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/Fau)
