PORTALJABAR, WEST BANDUNG REGENCY - The West Java Provincial Government, through the Food Security and Livestock Service (DKPP), continues to strengthen the foundation of smallholder livestock farming to maintain the availability of animal-based food while improving community welfare.

This commitment was realized by distributing livestock facilities and infrastructure to the Sauyunan Livestock Group in West Bandung Regency on Monday (August 10, 2026). The assistance was distributed directly through the Jatiwangi Poultry Breeding Development Center (BPPTU) Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD).

Ahmad Gufron, Head of the Jatiwangi Poultry Breeding Development Center's Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD), explained that the aid distributed included 195 pullets (laying hens ready for production), 1.4 tons of animal feed, and a package of medicines, vaccines, and chemicals (OVK). To support business sustainability, the West Java Provincial Government also provided breeding facilities in the form of a 1,500-egg setter incubator and a 500-egg hatcher incubator.

"This strategic step is not only aimed at increasing the livestock population, but also at building an independent and productive livestock business system," Ahmad said on Monday (10/8/2026).

These hundreds of pullets are expected to provide initial capital for developing a laying hen population capable of optimal egg production, thus providing a new source of income for group members. Furthermore, support with feed and OVK will ensure the health and efficiency of the livestock.

Strengthening breeding facilities at the group level was also a key focus of this intervention. With the operation of the setter and hatcher incubators, the Sauyunan Livestock Group was encouraged to focus not only on producing eggs for consumption but also on hatching chicks in a planned manner.

This independence will reduce the dependence of farmers on seed supplies from outside the region, while ensuring the availability of quality poultry seeds in the community.

The development of smallholder livestock plays a crucial role in the development of the livestock sector in West Java. Small-scale livestock farmers and livestock groups are the driving force of the rural economy and the spearhead of animal protein supply.

"It is believed that increasing local egg production capacity will directly contribute to meeting the community's nutritional needs and establishing a more resilient food supply chain," said Ahmad.

To ensure this assistance becomes a long-term productive investment, the Jatiwangi BPPTU UPTD will continue to provide technical assistance and regular coaching related to institutional governance, business records, biosecurity, and marketing strategies.

This ongoing collaboration between the local government and livestock groups is expected to create a strong livestock ecosystem from upstream to downstream, in order to realize an advanced, independent, productive, and sustainable livestock industry in West Java for the Special Region of West Java. *opd
